#1700 MOC OF THE WEEK: Sydney Opera House by Ryan McNaught & Erik Varszegi

Have you ever seen a model so large? Today’s MOC of the Week is the Sydney Opera House, built by Ryan McNaught & Erik Varszegi. Having taken over 225 hours to complete, this masterpiece is the LEGO recreation of the famous opera house located in Sydney, Australia.

The two builders, Ryan and Erik, collaborated on the build from either side of the globe and built the structure in separate segments that were then assembled as one. At almost 10 years old, this build has stood the test of time, as it is undoubtedly just as impressive today as it was nine years ago.

Using simpler pieces than what is available to builders today, Erik and Ryan construct very natural and curving shapes out of many square bricks.

Should the two builders attempt a modern recreation of this masterpiece? Let us know in the comments!
